About this work
Description
Two wooden statues of St Anthony the hermit (c.468-c.520) also known as Anthony of Lerins. Invoked against plagues, epidemics, carbuncles and skin infections. The items were purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum in 1917 and accessioned in 1938 (accession numbers R600/1938 and R601/1938). They are not held by Wellcome Collection.
