About this work

Description

Wigs are prominently displayed, including judges' and barristers' wigs, as the barber serves the legal practitioners of Lincoln's Inn. A theatre notice at the bottom left advertises the play The heir-at-law by George Colman the younger, 1797, as in performance at the Theatre Royal: it sums up the barber's business as hair (heir) at law (for lawyers)
