Description

The stars of the American flag form the backdrop to the scene. The pigs "blush as President Roosevelt reveals to them their filthy fate in the Chicago abbatoirs". Roosevelt holds a broom indicating his qualified support for exposés by "muckraking" journalists etc. The print refers to Roosevelt's involvement in the investigation of lack of cleanliness in the Chicago meat factories, which had been brought to public attention as a result of Upton Sinclair's novel The jungle (1906)
