About this work

Description

Every year, British Doctor Sandy Scott ascends the Khumbhu Valley, in the foothills of Everest, to the village of Pheriche, which is the site of the highest hospital in the world. For the next three months, this will be Scott's home. Further up the mountain, Doctor Luanne Freer runs the Everest Base Camp Clinic. Climbing Everest has become big business and Everest ER follows the two doctors and their teams as they battle against the extreme conditions to which the inexperienced and experienced climbers alike can fall prey, from frostbite and broken bones to altitude sickness and fluid on the lungs. Both question the commerciality of the Everest 'industry', despite both loving the challenge of the environment and having the opportunity to provide free health care to the local population.
