In a landscape of densely leaved trees, Leda, seated at the edge of a pool, stretches out her right arm towards the approaching swan which is brought to her by cupids with a chain of flowers. Above, a cupid aims an arrow at her. Left, two other swans, and a shepherd tending his flock by a herm. Beyond, a monastery and mountains

The prominent Portuguese painter Francisco Vieira moved to London in 1797 and learned to engrave in Bartolozzi's studio. He returned to Oporto in 1801, and in 1802 Bartolozzi moved from London to Lisbon (Alexander, op. cit.). Therefore this print may have been produced much earlier than 1814, the date on the BM impression
