Description

Previously designated as a portrait of Thomas Sydenham and as attributed to Lely. "I am certain that the portrait cannot be by Lely and I should doubt if it could represent Sydenham, as it must have been painted in the 1680s to judge from the style of the cravat."--letter from Oliver Miller to F.N.L.
