About this work

Publication/Creation

1800-1899

Physical description

1 print : engraving ; platemark 7.4 x 11.2 cm

Lettering

Johann De Caro, der Arzneykunde Doctor, geboren zu Genf den 8ten August 1770. Nach Rahl v. J.C. Richter gest. Berl.

Creator/production credits

Lettering states that the portrait was engraved in Berlin by J.C. Richter after a drawing by Rahl. The Berlin artist Johann Carl Richter died in 1832. Therefore the drawing is more likely to be by Carl Heinrich Rahl (1779-1843) than by Carl Rahl (1812-1865), who would have been only twenty years old at Richter's death
