About this work
Description
The first in a two-part series about coma. This part features Joanne Douglas who fell into a coma 6 years ago after an unexpected seizure. Her doctors think she is in PVS (a persistent vegetative state) and will not recover awareness. However her parents believe she is 'locked in' inside a non-responsive body, able to understand all that is happening but unable to react (quadriplegia). She travels from Scotland to the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney, south-west London where she will undergo tests to determine whether or not her parents are right.
