About this work
Description
Documentary looking at the lives of narcolepsy sufferers who exist in 'a twilight world between waking and sleep', with symptoms including hallucinations and paralysing fits. The medical world has only recently understood this condition, after discovering that there is a chemical in the brain that keeps us awake rather than sending us to sleep. If a drug based on this chemical were manufactured, it could mean that narcoleptics would be able to lead a normal life. However, a drug that could keep us awake without causing us any harm could lead to a 24-hour society with people under pressure to work 24-hour days - in the words of one contributor '[it] would be hell'!
