Description
The monument includes a portrait bust of King Maximilian I of Bavaria 1806-1825, previously Elector Maximilian IV Joseph of Bavaria 1799-1806. It was dedicated in 1828. Bad Kreuth (Wildbad Kreuth) is set in mountains in the very south of Bavaria, near the Austrian border. The inscription means in English "His life, like the spring, was pure and rich in blessings"
Under the bust of the king is a bas-relief showing supplicants approaching Hygieia in the quest for health through the use of the water from the spring
