About this work

Description

Two pall-bearers are walking in the bottom right-hand corner. The skeleton holds a document saying "ordonance", signifying the doctor's collusion with the call of death. The doctor may either have a large collar or large, devilish (or donkeyish) ears (compare Wellcome Library no. 16059i where the ears are coloured pink).
