About this work
Description
One of several prints on Boscawen's attempts to stop French encroachments on North America in 1755. Despite foggy conditions, Captain Howe in the 'Dunkirk' captured the 'Alcide', 64 guns, 480 men, and the 'Lys', mounted with 22 guns. This action effectively disabled the French navy and blockaded Louisbourg in Nova Scotia, Canada
