A Robert Jones lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons circa 1935.

The reel contains three films of arthoplasty of the knee used in Robert Jones' lecture at the Royal College of Surgeons by an unidentified lecturer. The three films are titled 1. 'H. J film' @ 24 fps (16 fps has been crossed through); the film depicts a ceremonial visit in an informal style by Robert Jones to an orthopaedic ward/hospital with other digniatories, the patients of all ages line up including small children - one of the wards is in the open air (edge codes circle/L indicates date of film 1936). 2. Elmslie film @ 16 fps; unidentified orthopaedic patient walking towards and away from the camera (this sequence has already been digitised. Note the intertitle mentions that there were 10 frames captured per second to create the slow-motion footage, 1935), 3. G. Collins film @ 24 fps; colour intertitle with '3 years, 4 months after operation'; female patient in blue satin bathing costume performs various tasks presumably to indicate her mobility. Once clothed, she walks on stairs and then years later she walks in a park with a man and a toddler in a pushchair. Further check ups show the extent to her recovery; this is interspersed with cineradiography of the joints. This material is from the late 1940s.
