With regard to the size of the volume, as the end, for which it is designed, requires that it be portable, it is accordingly small; and, perhaps, might. form no unsuitable appendix to Smith’s Compendium Flore. Britannice. I regret that I could not avail myself of the im- provements, exhibited in Sir James Smith’s English Flora; as the sheets of this book were in the printer’s hands, before I had an i) toes of seeing it, I cannot conclude without acknowledging my ob- ligations to Dr. Graham, for the encouragement and assistance, with which he has favoured me; and, at the same time, I hold myself imdebted, in some measure, to the publications, to which I have already etrai.
