Description
Among the classical, pastoral elements (lute and harp players, tambourines), the half-concealed presence of a sword and a wheel (between the child and the bride) tell us that the subject of the picture is St. Catherine of Alexandria, who was beheaded after a failed attempt to break her on a wheel. The Virgin Mary holds the Christ child, while behind her Joseph looks on
