About this work

Description

One of a series of compilations of amateur footage taken by Dr. Bolton in the 1930s when he was at the Peckham Pioneer Health Centre, London. The notes are a combination of the, sometimes undecipherable, handwritten boxes and the WFSA who viewed the material with Dr Bolton's widow. This compilation features a mixture of random shots of streets, a railway station, a clock, the signs for men and ladies' toilets and scenes at a swimming pool and at a recreational ground (the latter two sequences at the Peckham Pioneer Health Centre). There are more scenes at the pool, probably not in sequence as the pool is full, then a lady with a fancy hat is seen opening the valve which fills the pool with water. There are further scenes of children diving and swimming shot poolside and from the viewing gallery. There are copies (presumably for sale) stacked up on a table of the book 'A Case for Action' published in 1931 - an account of the first health centre written by Pearse and Williams, the founders of Peckham, which preceeded the creation of 'The Centre'. There are miscellaneous scenes in the cafe.
