About this work
Description
As patients gain increased access to their medical records the question that arises is whether all patients really want to know what their records contain. Joan Bakewell talks to Dr. Angela Hall (Cancer Research Campaign), Dr. Jane Sommerville (Royal Brompton Hospital), Dr. Ian Robinson (Brunel University), and Mark Fisher, M.P., and explores the points of view of patients, relatives and a hospital chaplain. The issues of deception and even conspiracy agains the patient are raised and found to have no satisfactory answers. Who should judge whether and when to tell terminally ill patients the truth about their condition?
