First in a five-part series on machines which changed the face of modern medicine. This part looks at the intervention of the kidney dialysis machine, an 'artificial kidney' which improved the survival rate of those suffering from renal failure. The programme traces the earliest versions of these machines and speaks to people undergoing long-term dialysis using today's modern dialysis machines.
