Description

This illustration shows the cellular changes that are seen as a result of the sexually transmitted disease Gonorrhea. It is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae thats grows easily in the warm moist environment of the reproductive tract. Gonorrhea in women is a common cause of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and can be prevented by wearing a condom during sex. This illustration is the artist’s interpretation of an electron micrograph showing the disease.
