About this work

Description

An anatomist holds back a flap of skin of a cadaver to reveal the intestines while raising a scalpel in his right hand. He is dressed, as are the surrounding observers to the dissection, in a frock coat and a wig, with the exception of one figure in the background who is not wearing a wig. The cadaver's head has been hooded with a cloth gathered at its neck
