    PREFACE. I FEEL that some apology is due for having added another book to the long list of those dealing with Diseases of the Nose and Throat. The excuse that I offer is that I know of no work of moderate size which gives anything like a complete account of these diseases. It may be thought that the surgical aspect of the subject has hardly been treated in sufficient detail; it must be remembered, however, that the book is written by a physician and not by a surgeon. In order to render the book of service to those readers who may wish to study the diseases in question more fully, I have added numerous refer- ences to published literature. I have made free use of the Centralblatt fur Laryngologie unci R/riuologie, so ably edited by my friend, Dr. Felix Semon, to whom T am also in- debted for many valuable suggestions.
