Description
Imprisoned for debt in the Fleet prison. Made a solemn vow never to have his beard shaved until his release from the Fleet Prison, but "died under confinement, without permitting a razor ever to touch his chin" (Caulfield, loc. cit.). Subject of a mezzotint portrait by John Faber published in 1754
