    CONDITIONS OF SALE. I.. The highest Bidder to be the Buyer; and if any dispute arise between two or more Bidders, the Lot to be re-offered or not at the Auctioneer’s discretion. II. The Auctioneer to regulate the bidding, and reserves the right to refuse a bidding, as he may think advisable, and to withdraw any Lot or Lots from the sale without in either case giving any reason. III. In the case of Lots upon which there is a reserve, the Auctioneer shall have the right to bid on behalf of the Vendor. IV. The Purchasers to give in their Names and Places of Abode, and, if required, to pay down ls. in the pound, or more, in part payment, or the whole of the Purchase-Money; in default of which the Lot or Lots so purchased to be immediately put up again and re-sold. V. The Lots to be taken away and paid for, at the Buyer’s expense and risk within Two Days from the Sale, and after the conclusion of the Sale Messrs. Puttick & Simpson will not hold themselves responsible if the Lots be lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed; but they will be left at the sole risk of the Purchaser. VI. The Books are presumed to be perfect, unless otherwise expressed in the Catalogue, or at the time of the Sale; but if upon collating within one week of the Sale they should prove defective, the Purchaser will be at liberty to take or reject them subject to Conditions VII and VIII. VII. All Works in Parts or Numbers (other than Magazines), AND ALL BOOKS WITH COLOURED PLATES must be collated BEFORE REMOVAL, or will be considered as sold NOT SUBJECT TO RETURN. VIII. The Sale of any Book or Books is not to be set aside on account of any Blank leaves, Stained or Short leaves or Text or Plates, or on account of the Publication of any. subsequent Volume, Supplement, Appendix, or Plates. All MANUSCRIPTS, Magazines, and Reviews, all Bindings, all unmentioned Books in Lots, and all Tracts in Lots or Volumes will be sold with all Faults, Imperfections, and Errors of Description. The sale of any Lots of Prints, Drawings, or Illustrated Books, or otherwise, is not to be set aside on account of any error in the _ description or enumeration. IX. Upon failure of complying with the above Conditions, the money deposited in part payment shall be forfeited; and all Lots left uncleared, in conformity with these Conditions, may be re-sold by public or private Sale, without further notice; and the Deficiency (if any) arising from such re-sale shall be made good by the Defaulters at this Sale, together with all charges attending the same. This Condition is without prejudice to the right of the Auctioneers to enforce the contract made at this Sale, without such re-sale, if they think fit, and to any other rights and remedies vested in them by law or otherwise.
