Description

Folded magazine insert advertising Carbolic Smoke Balls. Includes many names of people who used "this infallible remedy" (countesses, ladies, Ellen Terry, earls, lords, sirs). The cover shows a woman with dark, wavy hair holding a carbolic smoke ball just below her nostrils. They cost 10 shillings with refills costing 5 shillings and cured hay fever, coughs, colds, asthma, catarrh, bronchitis, sore throat, influenza, croup, whooping cough, neulagia, headache, hoarseness, loss of voice and in the nursery. The Carbolic Smoke Ball Company was based at 27 Princes Street, Hanover Square, London where free trials were offered. Their Sunilla is also advertised as a blood purifier and tonic.
