Sir Gervas Powell Glyn (1862-1921), sixth baronet (the first had been raised to the baronetcy in 1759) was born in Ewell, Surrey, on 3 October 1862, the third son of Sir George Lewen Glyn, 4th Bart., and Henrietta Amelia, daughter of Richard Carr Glyn. He was a member of the family associated with Glyn Mills Bank. He succeeded his half-brother in 1891. Educated at Winchester and at New College Oxford, he then studied medicine at University College London, but did not practise medicine. He spent much time travelling: besides European countries, he visited Ceylon, India, Straits Settlements, China, Japan, British Columbia, Alaska, United States, New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, Egypt, Syria, Tunis, and Algiers. He was an accomplished musician, playing the cello; he also collected foreign and antique musical instruments, and installed an organ in his house. He practised photography and was one of the amateur radiographers who repeated Roentgen's discoveries to produce his own X-rays. He was succeeded by his brother Arthur Robert Glyn (born 5 August 1870)
