About this work

Description

Poster advertising an Exhibition, a touring variety show headlined by "the most astounding freaks of nature ever shown to the public", a young girl (Baby Samson) who can lift heavy weights and another who had some sort of wasting or shrivelled condition on one side of his body (he performed circus tricks prior to his mother telling his story to the audience). There was also Mons Alove, a trapeze artist and a "monstre" Yorkshire eagle. This possibly dates from around 1880. No location is given for the show, although the poster was printed by J. Edwards, machine printer, &c. of 11 Abbey Street in Accrington.
