Description
Black and white photograph of William Alexander Cole posed leaning against an upholstered wooden chair and wearing a long double breasted dark frock coat. William Alexander Cole qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1901 and practised in Lagos as a medical officer in the colonial medical service from 1902-1942.

Inscription on the verso in black ink identifies the sitter and dates the image as 1879. However based on a recorded birth date of Cole, it seems more likely the image was taken in the 1880s or 1890s.
