About this work

Description

The last in a three-part series which follows doctors and nurses from the NHS at work in Bastian Hospital, a battlefield ER in Afghanistan. We follow medics as they train for action, leaving behind full-time positions in the NHS, most of them for the first time. This part focuses in particular on the fight against Taliban suicide bomb attacks. In one sequence the air ambulance is attacked by Taliban fire bombs as they attempt to fly off with their casualties. We see the treatment of an 11-year-old boy, soldiers with various wounds and a wounded Taliban soldier.
