Photograph of a cast of a carved shaft straightener of mammoth tusk, from the Magdalenian peoples in the Upper Palaeolithic period. Two images on one slide. The first (top) bears incised representations of masked imp-like figures, horses, a cervid's head, a serpent, birds, etc. from the region of Teyjat, Dordogne. The second image (bottom) shows the development of the cast showing the details of the carving.
