A reproduction of a photograph of two images from Hutchinson, Walter: Customs of the world : a popular account of the manners, rites and ceremonies of men and women in all countries, London: Hutchinson, 1913. The top image shows stone lancets, used for surgical operations, and scarificators used for making shallow incisions in the skin for the purpose of drawing blood. There are also some flints and arrowheads in the image that were used for bloodletting. These instruments are of Native American origin. The bottom image shows an illustration of 13 pieces of Moxa (instruments used in a form of heat therapy). These were drawn by C. Whitehead at the "Indian Medical Exhibit of Medicine" in 1925 in the United States of America.
