Biographical note
Project Summary:“How to Build a Bionic Man” will be a Channel 4 TV special broadcast on February 7th at 9pm, which explores extraordinary advances in medicine. Our understanding of the human body has reached a level where we can now construct new parts, to save and improve lives. In the programme artificial body parts will be linked to create a humanoid made from equipment used to replace or replicate real biological functions; this unlikely assembly will be a symbol of human ingenuity in the world of biomedical science and engineering. The challenge will bring together research scientists, clinicians, engineers and materials experts to create a unique “body” and provoke interesting and unexpected debates about cutting edge medicine. Funding from Wellcome has been used towards creating the bionic body.
