Reproduction of a woodcut of: Maria the Jewess (also known as Mary the Jewess, Maria Hebraea, Mary the Prophetess, Maria Prophetissa, or Maria the Copt), an alchemist, who lived between the 1st-3rd centuries and gave the name to Bain-Marie water bath. The original woodcut is from from Stolcius, Daniel (active 1618): Viridarium chymicum figuris cupro incisis adornatum, et poeticis picturis illustratum Frankfort : L. Jennis, 1624.
