Description

Photograph of a print publication of a 13th century manuscript illustration with the caption "gathering mandragora." The caption beneath the illustration reads: "To gather ye mangragora, go forth at dead of nyght and take a dogge or other animal and tye him wyth a corde unto ye plante. Loose ye earth round teare up ye roote,which by its dreadfull cryes wyll kyll ye animal." The illustration shows a man with a dog tied to their legs, and a man on his knees to the right. It appears the 'man' is representing the mandragora (mandrake) plant.
