About this work
Description
The papers in this collection date mainly from the period after Daley's retirement in 1952 until his death in 1969. They comprise correspondence, committee papers, reports, lecture notes and photographs relating to many aspects of public health and community medicine, including other professions in the public health field and health education. Of particular note is the almost complete set of his lecture notes, articles and speeches spanning his career and retirement (see C.3), many of which include other information relating to public health gathered by Daley for the purposes of writing the speech or article. Also, after his retirement he reviewed nearly 600 book and journal articles (see C.7).

Biographical note
William Allen Daley (AWD) held public health offices from the beginning of his career and was the Chief Medical Officer of Health for London County Council from 1939 until his retirement in February 1952, after which he was an Associate Member of the Baltimore Public Health Dept for 4 months.
After returning to Britain, AWD continued to serve on a variety of committees, relating to community health and ancillary professions, as well as other health and medical matters. He was involved in several special studies or projects, either as part of the particular committee or because he was invited to by the organisation. Very often a report was produced as a result of the work or study undertaken by AWD; in most cases, these reports can be found among these papers.
