The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "‘Richard’, French prisoner of war at Dulmen Camp in Germany wearing a delightful and beautifully made tiered and sequinned frock with a fur-trimmed hem and train. He carries a gauze fan, and poses in a very ladylike way with one arm raised. Some of these boys really knew how to do it."
