About this work

Description

This file contains a variety of different letters sent to Pontecorvo from 1944-1964. It is said that these letters were removed and placed in a separate file because they contained signatures (and the ideas) of notable people in the fields of genetics, biology, virology and chemistry. It is not known whether it was Pontecorvo who selected and arranged these letters in this fashion or whether it was a family member or colleague who did this after his death. However, it was decided that it was best to keep these letters in this arrangement because of their importance in charting the development of research in genetics and other related fields during the 1940s-1960s and for demonstrating Pontecorvo's relationships with some important 20th century scientific figures.
