About this work

Description

Professor Michael Rutter is interviewed about his Isle of Wight study into children's mental health in the 1960s. At that time, children tended to have emotional problems - anxiety, depression - or behavioural problems - e.g. hyperactivity. Professor Robert Goodman's 1999 study identified increased mental health problems, despite increased relative affluence. They speculated that the causes may be related to family breakdown, educational pressures, more drugs available and a generally more complex lifestyle.
