The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Unidentified male character in elaborate theatrical drag. The draped frock is daringly slashed to thigh level to show off a be-ribboned garter. This detail, together with the enormous hat and tall jewelled cane suggest that he may be dressed as a ‘Meneuse’; a glamourous hostess introducing the acts in a French revue [or circus]."
