About this work
Description
Glass and acetate 3 1/4"x 4 1/4" (8.5 x 11cm) slides ('quarter plates') of images relating to the research conducted in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Biophysics Research Unit, King's College London (from 1964, the Department of Biophysics). Images include: x-ray diffraction photographs of DNA; graphs and other interpretations of the data obtained from the diffraction photographs, including Fourier transforms, Bessel wave functions, and diagrams and space-filled models of the structure of DNA; x-ray cameras and other cameras, reflecting microscopes and electron microscopes, and other equipment used in the course of DNA research; images relating to the work of the Muscle Group, under (Emmeline) Jean Hanson, researching the structural basis of muscular contraction; illustrations prepared for scientific journal articles and lectures by Unit staff.
Slides are individually numbered in a chronological sequence. Original numbers have been maintained which has resulted in some gaps in the sequence and some non-standard numbering.
See KDBP/2/1-5 for indexes to the slides.
