Biographical note
Project Summary:A cross media project containing a moving-image installation, feature length film and a supporting book and website, based on the writings of Daniel Paul Schreber, whose book Memoirs of My Nervous Illness - 1903 was made famous by Freud's 1911 critical and diagnostic reading. Schreber was raised within punitive systems of discipline developed by his father, and suffering long-term psychosis later in life. Shockheaded Soul aims to convey both the depth of Schreber's suffering and the richness of his literary depiction of the experience of psychosis, exploring the contemporary implications of the labyrinthine inner worlds depicted in Schreber's book in a way that invites audience to engage and empathise with psychotic experience.
