Description
Thomas Spring-Rice was Chancellor of the Exchequer in Lord Melbourne's administration, and Lord John Russell was Home Secretary. Lord Brougham persistently attacked Melbourne's government. "Viscount Melbourne vociferously complained about the bitterness of Lyndhurst's invective" (Oxford dictionary of national biography)
