Description

One of a pair of paintings of the twin brothers Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, both physicians. Each saint wears academic dress and stands in a landscape. This one was described as Saint Cosmas when acquired by Wellcome: he faces towards the viewer's left, and holds a lily in his right hand and surgical instruments (including a cautery iron) in his left hand
