Description

Typescript accounts of Maurice Wilkins’ early childhood in New Zealand, 1916-1923, move to UK, 1923, and childhood in Birmingham. Aspects of these accounts were used in chapter 1, ‘Distant shores’, The third man of the double helix (Oxford University Press, 2003) by Maurice Wilkins. Also published booklet, ‘A city at war: Birmingham, 1939-1945’ (Birmingham Museums and City Art Gallery, 1985), with a photograph of Wilkins’ parents during their service as Fire Guards, World War Two.
