Description

Photograph of a section of a Roman altar found at Borcovicus (also known as Vercovicium, Borcovicium, and Velurtion and today known as Housesteads Roman Fort), Northumberland, England. It is inscribed to a physician. The negative was purchased by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum from the Black Gate Museum, Newcastle, in February 1937.
