Description

Photograph of the statue 'Der Siegesbote von Marathon', 1881, by Max Kruse (1854-1942). Presumably Pheidippides, who is said to have run from Marathon to Athens to deliver news of the Greek victory over the Persians at Marathon, but perhaps generalised to represent any runner of the marathon race.
