Black and white reproduction of an oil painting on canvas by Ernest Board (1877-1934) depicting Paracelsus (1493-1541), also known as Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, burning the books of the "fathers of medicine" Galen and Avicenna. The event is thought to have occured at the University of Basel on 24 June 24 1527.
