Biographical note

Trained in the London Hospital from 1882 - 1884, she was one of Florence Nightingale's "young women", the first body of ladies to enter the profession of nursing. She was heavily involved in the foundation of the Midwives Institute in 1881 and was one of the original founders of the CSP in 1894. She was a member of the CSP Council for 10 years and director of examinations for 18 years.
