Photograph of an oil painting identified as depicting John Ayliffe (active 1522-1550), surgeon to King Henry VIII, in the style of Quentin Metsys, with extensive lettering, c.1540. The painting was accessioned by the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum on 21st March 1932 (CC 5986).
